Everyone agrees in attributing exceptional therapeutic properties to the &#8220;Tropea onion&#8221;, as confirmed by scrupulous laboratory analyses. <\/p>\n\n<p>There is no doubt, therefore, that the <strong>&#8220;red onion of Tropea&#8221;<\/strong> today represents one of the most interesting typical local products of the entire Italian agricultural scene. Every year, in the month of August, the <strong>red onion festival<\/strong> takes place in Ricadi, the capital, on the initiative of the municipal administration, in agreement with the pro-loco and an organizing committee, which is always renewed and integrated in the continuous search for the best to offer to an ever-increasing number of visitors and tourists, who gladly leave the village or the hotel,  where they spend their holidays, to participate in the event of the Festival, aimed at enhancing the typically rural component of the <strong>Tropea-Capo Vaticano<\/strong> district area. <\/p>\n\n<p>The Festival also wants to recover ancient values of the peasant world; the love for the land and for animals, the interest in harvests, the rediscovery of cuisine and genuine and traditional foods. The red of Tropea deserves the attribution of the QUALITY MARK to avoid confusion and possible counterfeiting and to promote, support its improvement and increase its production development.<br\/>Italian scholars have ascertained that the onion relieves, if not heals perfectly, colds and flu. It also helps fight aging. This vegetable, which contains vitamin C, has an anti-haemorrhagic action, strengthens cells, tones veins and arteries and helps defend against infectious attacks.   <\/p>\n\n<p>It should also be noted that the onion does not lack iron, which keeps the number of red blood cells in the blood at the right level; it has a sedative power so much so that it easily reconciles sleep and also exerts its beneficial action on diuresis and hypertension. Recent studies on senility and cancer prevention reveal the importance in the daily diet of vitamin E, Selenium, Iodine, Zinc and Magnesium, elements present, in a certain quantity, in onions. Scholars such as Kendal, Menom, Newal recommend them for the treatment of chronic rheumatism, consider them beneficial in the treatment of obesity, have positively tried them as stimulants of the virile capacity, find in them an antisclerotic power with benefits for the heart and arteries. In the fight against cardiovascular disease and heart attack, eating these onions means ensuring an increase in the fibrinolytic activity of the blood.     <\/p>\n\n<p>It is no coincidence to find the low mortality rate from heart attack in Calabria, where people consume a lot of onion preparing it in salads, dressings, cooking it in the oven, boiled, omelette and especially raw.
